Introduction

Our TEFL Diploma course is designed to be taken by practicing teachers or those who wish to gain a higher level of study having completed a TEFL certificate level course. There are a number of very good reasons for undertaking the Diploma TEFL course which could include, but are not limited to:

  • Continuing your education
  • Professional development
  • On completion apply for a better paying post
  • On completion apply for a higher level post or management position
  • To further develop your transferable skills

Course content

The TITC TEFL Diploma course is arranged in 12 modules, shown below, and is conducted entirely online via e-mail.

  • Module 1. Study skills
  • Module 2. A brief history of ELT
  • Module 3. Second language acquisition
  • Module 4. Course design
  • Module 5. Discourse analysis
  • Module 6. Material design
  • Module 7. Phonology
  • Module 8. Assessment methods
  • Module 9. Classroom management
  • Module 10. Embedding learning technologies
  • Module 11. Continuing professional development
  • Module 12. Negotiated research project

Each of the first eleven modules will require approximately 16 hours of study, giving an overall study time of 175 hours. The final module is a 5000-word research thesis requiring about 75 hours work. Total study time is therefore about 250 hours. You will have access to an exclusive online forum to form study groups and share ideas with other course participants.

Diploma course with tutor support

Should you choose the Diploma course with tutor support, each module task sheet will be marked and reported upon by your online tutor. The 250-hour Diploma course with tutor support is priced at $990.

Diploma course without tutor support

The Diploma course without tutor support is split into two strands: Initially you would receive modules 1 to 6, with accompanying task sheets. You would complete the task sheets independently at your own pace, then request a username and password for the Summative Test 1.

Once you had completed this test, you would then receive modules 7 to 11, with the same procedure for Summative Test 2. As with the tutor-support course, the final module is a 5000-word thesis requiring about 75 hours work. The total study time is also about 250 hours. The TITC Diploma course without tutor support is usually priced at $600, but we are offering the course at just $500 until 31st Dec 2008.

Course aims

The course aims to give you an appreciation of a whole range of issues from learning theories to material design. Research is conducted mainly via the world-wide-web and occasionally through reference texts. Completion of the course will improve your research and writing skills as well as develop a whole range of transferable skills from essay structure to question development.

Assessment

Certification is achieved either through the satisfactory completion of all module task sheets or two summative tests. Should you opt for the course with tutor support, you will have the opportunity to submit each module a maximum of three times, subsequent to annotation by your course tutor.

Course pre-requisites
