TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Iryna
ITTT graduate Iryna recorded this TEFL review video. Iryna took the 120-hour online TEFL course with tutor support and videos. Iryna found the course materials to be simple, clear, short and practical and she enjoyed studying each of the 20 modules. Each module is followed by an online test that evaluates how well you have understood the material covered in the unit. As a result of taking the online TEFL course with ITTT Iryna found that her professional confidence has increased.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
The most important thing I learned in this part is how important execution is. It does not matter how perfect and organized a lesson plan is, it is essentially the execution that can make or break the class. I learned from the example how the students level of engagement increased when the teacher smiled and simplified his presentation. He attempted to make the lesson more relatable and fun, which can hook students. The tone and demeanor can also affect student participation, so one must give off a welcoming vibe to create a comfortable environment where everyone can willingly participate. The unit contents of learning theories (four major groups), difference between L1 and L2, difference between language acquisition and language learning, dividing the young learners into two groups, ESA model, the learning environment, the teacher's role, productive and receptive skills and maturation. I am familiar with Harmer's ESA model, which is also useful for adult learners. I didn't expect the group division to be at the age of nine, as I thought it would be the age of ten. However, it makes sense to me. I have also learned about the waystage and brakethrough level for young learners.
