TEFL Videos - How long does a TEFL course take?
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit has given an overview of the entire course content. I have understood from this unit who a young learner is on the basis of learning and developmental theories. I learned the objective of this course one of which is to discuss using standard industry terminology, the role of teaching English to young learners. I've learned acronyms associated with TESL and that adaptations to theories must be made to account for the difference in learning process between L1 and L2. I became aware of the main expectations which include school type, standard contact hour range, salary scope, etc.Piaget’s theory tells us that young learners, especially from 2 to 7 years, are ego centric. They have trouble understanding different viewpoints and empathizing with others, and they classify objects by a single characteristic without acknowledging other qualities. Knowing these factors in young learners can help us in our approach in teaching them English. We can encourage students to learn from their peers, allow students to learn from their mistakes, focus on the process of learning as well as the results, and respect each student’s individual interest, abilities and limits.
