TEFL Videos - CELTA
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In this unit, I learned the two productive skills, which are speaking and writing. To attain these two students must possess knowledge of the language. With speaking fluency is more important than accuracy, on the other hand in writing accuracy is more important than fluency. Students may be able to speak more than writing because writing skills require more understanding of language structure, unlike with speaking they can easily retract their words if they got confused in the middle of the conversation. But students need to learn both skills for them convey their thoughts more freely. In this unit I learned about the many parts to teaching and learning english pronunciation. It covered the importance and how to place stress on certain words in a sentence, the notation in a sentence, and the phonemic alphabet. Each section also included suggested techniques that could be used for teaching each concept. I learned how to read and understand words using the phonemic alphabet. This unit had a lot of detailed information on pronunciation and phonology. I think this will be very useful when trying to explain to students the different sounds of words in the english language.
