TEFL Videos - From Student to Teacher in 6 Easy Steps
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
To be a good teacher you need to have certain qualities and you need to have a desire for teaching so that you are able to understand and teach your students effectively. Teachers must be able to give their lessons with enthusiasm and must include their students so as to keep them interested. They must know the weaknesses and strengths of their students, so that they can assist and encourage them whenever it is needed. In the classroom there are many different roles in which the teacher has to carry out. There are different types of learners adult learners and young learners. Each of these types learners may learn in different ways, may be more experienced than others with learning. While adult learners are able to have greater discussions and have a higher level of understanding, they can still be nervous and reluctant to try new ways of learning. Whereas younger learners have less attention span and need much more encouragement and motivation, they are more willing to try new things and are enthusiastic when it comes to learning to speak English. There are also many different levels of learners, ranging from beginner to advanced. The student may have no knowledge or very basic knowledge of English. They may be able to communicate and understand the language, but still make mistakes in basic structures. Or they could have a very good understanding and be able to communicate well, but still lack accuracy. Every student is at a different learning level and if they have a desire to learn they will ask questions and be willing to give their best effort. There are also many reasons as to why someone might want to learn the English language, and it is the teachers job to help them to do that to the best of their ability.
