TEFL Videos - Lesson planning Dos and Don'ts
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Unit 9 showed us very enriching aspects of lesson planning. We read and learned about how to plan a lesson, what to include, and how to plan a sequence of lessons. The samples are great because I got to see how to plan using a more graphic layout and I found it particularly useful because you can look at it, and you'll quickly see all the info it contains. Something else that is vital is the monitoring of our lessons. It gives us ideas about effectiveness or needed improvements. By monitoring our lessons we will be able to find our strenghts and weaknesses and solve them or enhance them. This unit talked about listening and reading skills. also known as receptive skills. It talked about how to get students interested and how to choose appropriate texts, this means authentic vs. not authentic, and how to cater to all students interests and limit just catering to the teachers interest. It also talked about exercises and what to do during each phase of the lesson plan. This unit also included a sample reading excerpt and also sample exercises that go with is. It is interesting to me that they also showed in the example how to link the reading to grammar excercises as well.
