TEFL Videos - lenin gonzalez
Lenin from the United States found our 120-hour TEFL course very helpful. He especially enjoyed looking into the grammar units and found the view from an English learner's point of view very interesting. He also found the units on lesson planning and classroom management very useful for his own future classroom.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit focuses on two receptive skills, reading and listening. The reasons for reading and listening are either for purpose or desire, or both. There are five skills people use to read and listen, and they are predictive skill, scanning, skimming, detailed information, and deduction from context. The teacher should use variety of topics that are interested and suitable to the students, so they can be engaged effectively. finally, the teacher needs to promote comprehensive understanding by provide comprehension tasks and activities to the students, such as jigsaw reading and jumbled texts. This unit taught me about the counterpart of receptive skills which is productive skills. I have come to learn that productive skills plays an equally important role in the learning curve of a student learning English as a foreign language. I now have a better understanding of how to make my classes more interactive, that is by encouraging my students to speak and at times be creative with the use of techniques such controlled activities, guided activities and creative communication. I have also added to my teaching skillset various other techniques to encourage interaction in the classroom.
