TEFL Videos - Livinus
Livinus is from Cameroon and is teaching English in China. He recently took our 120-hour online certification course and enjoyed working through the 20 units. He enjoyed the flexibility the course gave him to complete the course.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
I have appreciated the distinction of what makes a good teacher and student. Helping me to be aware of how important it is to make the class as interesting and motivating as possible. Having a clearer understanding of the levels of ability will help me to see where the student is at and where i can support and encourage the student to develop their own skills. Also adding me with repeat students to have a continuous learning strategy for them. The section on cause and effect will help me to be more aware of the successful affect on the class i wish too have for the benefit of the students. This unit was the opposite of the last, focusing on productive instead of receptive skills. In the last unit we focused on listening and reading so this time instead we focused on speaking and writing. We talked about what to do for each phase of the lesson plan, and how to deal with accuracy versus fluency. It talked about how some exercises need to be geared more toward accuracy, more often in the study phase, and other exercises need to be geared more toward the fluency aspect, like in the engage phase. The accuracy focuses more on form where the fluency focuses more on speaking freely.
