TEFL Videos - Teach English in Thailand!
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In this unit we studied past tense verbs in the simple past, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Continuous verbs are characterized by the \"be\" auxiliary verb and -ing ending. Perfect verbs are characterized by the \"have\" auxiliary. The most difficulties for students of the English language will likely arise with irregular verb formations and the usage of each form of the past. It can be difficult to understand, for example, when to use the simple past and when to use the past continuous. Story telling and reading exercises can help with making this distinction. This unit was very helpful for me in distinguishing the different types of present tenses and the different ways and contexts in which they are used. As a native speaker of English it is not often that I have to think about the different usages of tenses, as it comes naturally to me. This unit helped me better understand how time is conveyed through the English language and how activities can be described according to when and how they are happening. It also helped me go back and reflect upon the material I learned in unit 2, such as the different usages of basic verbs and auxiliary verbs.
