TEFL Videos - TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 12
This episode of Chantelle’s TEFL video diary looks unit 12 of her online course. Unit 12 focuses on the two productive skills speaking and writing. The unit looks at the difference between accuracy and fluency and also discusses activities that can be used to encourage speaking and writing in both controlled and more creative situations. The unit discusses issues specific to writing such as handwriting, spelling, punctuation etc. It also looks at how games can be used in the classroom and encourages you to think about how to adapt different games for different language points.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In this unit I learnt so much about a teachers role and this unit broke down each role very clearly and broadened my understanding of each role of a teacher. This unit allowed me to see how a teacher needs to know not only his/her own qualities of being a good teacher but also the well being and the qualities of the students and how to encourage and motoivate those students qualities. I also learned about the different language levels of students. This unit has really given me a foundation of my teaching career and all the small things that play a big role in teachers and students lifes. This unit reviews types of syllabi, learner levels, student evaluation, and testing. Courses may be organized based on several factors, number of students, material covered, length of the course, and others. In some cases, a functional/notional syllabus may be more beneficial, for instance in a longer course covering more functions of the language, but in others, perhaps a shorter course designed to only cover certain aspects English, a situational syllabus may work well. The course syllabus must have room for review and testing and should be able to adapt to student needs as they arise.
