Types of test covered include placement tests, progress tests, diagnostic tests, and practice tests. The unit also looks at the different external examinations students are likely to take such as TOEFL and IELTS.

This chapter that with teaching pronunciation and phonology. One of the tools mentioned for teaching for knowledge of pronunciation was the international phonetic alphabet. It should be mentioned that this alphabet for this writing system is not commonly taught it all countries or an all school systems, and so there could be a learning curve just to implement a tool. That tool, then, may not be as effective. However in some countries, like China, the phonetic alphabet is commonly taught and so it may serve as a more useful tool then in other places.
