TEFL Videos - TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 7
This episode of Chantelle’s TEFL course video diary looks at unit 7. Unit 7 deals with techniques for teaching new language whether this is grammar, vocabulary or functions. The unit provides different ways of teaching new language with sample lesson plans and suitable activities. Chantelle provides a good tip for potential students of ITTT’s online courses, which is to print off the course units as you access them and keep them in a folder so that you can easily go back to previous units and refresh your memory on what you have previously studied.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In this unit, I've gained the general idea of how to teach special groups effectively. First, I learnt there are two or three categories for beginners: The absolute beginner, the false beginner, the adult beginners, etc. And I picked up some tips for teaching beginners. Then I learnt some suggestions of teaching individual students and children. After that, I got to know how to teach business English in which we may do a needs analysis first. Finally, I got basic ideas for teaching the monolingual and the multilingual class and I should avoid the use of the mother tongue in the classroom.I learned what it is to speak English with conditionals. Conditional statements need special attention and usually start with the word \"if\". An example of a conditional statement is \"if you want, we'll go out to dinner\". This has two parts, a condition, and a result. The condition is expressed by \"if\". To report them, don't change the verbs unless you're dealing with a real condition. Look and see if verb tenses can change depending on how the sentence is structured. I will try to remember different phrases as examples, so I can use these as references when practicing in real life.
