This unit perhaps had the most profound effect on me so far. I experienced a great deal of secondhand embarrassment on the part of the teacher in the first lesson. Even though the teacher and students were the same in both videos, the teacher's attitude and patience made a world of difference. Unlike in the first video, the teacher seemed to want to be in the classroom in the second, and seemed interested in student learning. His frustration, negative affect and gruff demeanor in the first video resulted in students closing themselves off and becoming unresponsive.
