TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Ruth
Ruth lives in Nicaragua and took the 120-hour online TESOL without tutor support from ITTT. In this TESOL review video Ruth discusses what she enjoyed about the course. She found the course units to be simple and easy to follow and particularly liked the teaching ideas that the course provided to help her teach language concepts in more varied and interesting ways. She also benefited from the job help provided at the end of the course.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
The teacher really keeps things moving from one activity to another in the second video. I know I have struggled in the past getting adolescent students to complete activities in a timely fashion as they do not start right and then they complain, trying wasting more time with that even though there were a fair number of students who completed the activity with time to spare. I would wish for better tools to combat this. If I ignore or just briefly address the complainers they just become more disruptive and I lose the class or attempt to deal with without support from administration. This unit covered lesson materials. There are a number of things teachers need to consider when choosing course books and lesson materials. Bringing authentic real life media into the class can be useful in engaging students. In contrast of authentic materials, teachers are responsible for creating materials suited to the student's learning level or the class activity. Specially made created materials make lessons more streamlined and efficient. A teacher should know the advantages and disadvantages of using coursebooks, and understand how to adapt and supplement where coursebooks fail.
