TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - TEFL Video Journal - Linda, Part 4
In the fourth part of her TEFL review video journal of her TEFL course with ITTT Linda talks about her experience of studying unit 4. This grammar based unit is the first that covers the tense system of the English language. The unit focuses on the present tenses and Linda feels that while grammar can be quite boring to study, this unit does a great job in explaining how the tenses can cause problems for learners of English by pointing out issues that do not occur to native speakers of the language.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
I appreciated the in depth look at the ways different sounds are made and how we can teach these varied sounds to our students. I often overlooked this part when I was teaching ESL but now see my mistake. The feelings these sounds convey, the mood, make the English language richer and more fun to learn, to speak, and to teach. I was a bit taken aback and intimidated by the IPA chart, like my students would surely be at first, but I got the hang of it eventually and found it fun, like a secret code. I would hope to be able to convey this same sense of fun to my students when teaching the IPA chart.
