TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Yuliia
Yuliia from Ukraine had been working as a lawyer before deciding to change careers and become an English teacher. In this TEFL review video, Yuliia tells us that she learnt a great deal of new information about English teaching from her course. She plans to use her certificate to teach English as a foreign language abroad.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit on productive skills was much like the unit on receptive skills. There is a difference between the two units though, this unit provided a detailed breakdown of the type of speaking activities that should be used when teaching accuracy and fluency. For accuracy a more controlled and guide activity will work better because it requires a student to use correct vocab and grammar for the activity. A more fun and free flowing creative activity would work better for fluency because it requires the student to be able to speak without stalling with or without mistakes in vocab or grammar. This unit helped me a lot to realize that class planning in important but that I still need to be able to be flexible when using the plan. It gave me an example of a lesson pan that I can use in the beginning of my teaching career but as I become more experienced I can make this plan more 'personal' and create my own structure. I learnt a lot from the example plans as they gave me ideas on teaching each phase and I saw examples of activities that I could use at each phase. In this unit it was made clear what a lesson plan should contain and what I should expect when taching from this plan.
