Lesson planning is important to structure the teaching in the class bearing in mind the level of the students. The lesson plan if possible should not be too detailed but broad enough for the teacher to be flexible in their approach. Lesson planning includes writing down the expectation from the students at the end of the class so that the teaching is focused on the objective. It should also serve as a working document ie it helps the teacher to be on target. The lesson plan also acts as a record of teachings conducted and can be used to improve the teaching approaches for future classes. In this lesson, I learned about the advantages and disadvantages of a wide variety of visual aids that teachers can use the classroom. These aids range from low tech items such as whiteboards, coursebooks, dictionaries, resource books, and worksheets to the high tech items of computers, overhead projectors, to interactive whiteboards or smartboards. As the range of resources will vary greatly depending on the school a teacher may find himself teaching, it is most important to be sure to be familiar with whatever aids you have available and to also have a backup plan in case technology fails.
