TEFL Videos - What questions should I ask a TEFL employer?
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Unit eleven covered general information about teaching the receptive skills reading and writing. I really found the section about specialist skills to be really interesting. It's good to know that we should encourage students to develop the skill of understanding texts without knowing every single word. This unit also stressed the importance of choosing topics and materials that motivate and interest the students, which is important because some children hate reading even in their own native language. I also learned about authentic and non-authentic texts and how to choose them wisely. For Unit 3, we learned about the many different mythologies and approaches to teaching English. In addition, we also learned how to provide feedback and the different correction techniques for addressing mistakes and errors. We did focus heavily on Engage, Study, and Activate method (ESA) and the various ways we can implement it. I really enjoyed the wonderful ideas and activities given in this unit. It is so important to expose students to the new language in various settings. I believe students get a better grasp of the language when they are able to interact with it in different ways.
