TEFL Videos - Where do schools provide free housing for English teachers abroad
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit was used to help give a better understanding to teaching productive skills (speaking and writing). This gave light to the understanding of different activities to improve fluency and accuracy. The different activities given are for the students to improve on either accuracy or fluency since both are important. This unit also provided some helpful hints on how to encourage students to speak and write and what potential problems to look out for. Also, there were two sample lesson plans provided that were helpful when thinking of how to teach a certain topic or aspect of language. This unit really focused on the differences between teaching adult and young learners, as well as people learning English for business. It explained how young beginners frequently need to have quicker activities as they can lose focus or interest easily. Adult beginners will be more committed to learning, but will tend to learn slower, and may have external commitments which affects their ability to do work outside of the classroom. I specifically learned to how to approach business English learners - ask them about what they need, as most will have specific reasons for learning English.
