It really helped me to think about language skills in this new way - as receptive skills or productive skills. It will help me ensure I have a balance across my classes, and while we have not yet covered productive skills yet, I'm looking forward to it. I have been playing with the idea of using short stories in my classes, but would have to be well aware of the language level, and the need to pre-teach difficult vocabulary. But some techniques are becoming clear to me, and I look forward to learning more.
