It is important to develop the productive skills of speaking and writing. Speaking can be used in many forms for example talking with a friend, competing in debate or telling a story whereas writing can be used for writing letters, writing novels or planning stories. If these two skills are not developed and drilled over and over again, people will struggle with new language development and cannot use it in everyday life. By writing and speaking you can speak a new word and spell it out simultaneously and so develop your new skill.
