Phonetics are taught by me on a regular basis in tutoring, and often demonstrates the importance of listening, explanation, and patience. Often I have the student repeat words and then simply break up the sounds into syllables. Once acihieved, and at times, having to explain even syllables, we concenytpratebpn the correct sounds. As pointed out in the unit, understanding where the tongue, positioning in relation to the teeth, throat sounds and using comparison sounds,, as well as breaking down sounds, thesyudent usually achieves the desired result. It is useful to understand and know the phonetic requirements, and as a tutor, I rarely shirk from teaching phonetics, andfind it rather enjoyable.
