I wonder how in depth a teacher should go on this subject with a beginner class? Is there an advantage to learning the theory behind phonology, or is it better to simply practice pronunciation? I was very interested in the section regarding intonation and stress. As I learn Korean in preparation for teaching English in SK, I have been struggling with the language's lack of stressed syllables. It sounds to my ear like an odd way to speak, and I'm sure it's equally unsettling to go the other way. Practicing stress through nonsense words is a clever way to practice this phonology without confusing the students by adding context/vocab. I am looking forward to teaching phonology- it seems like a challenge for the student and teacher, but one that can be overcome through creative and fun exercises.
