TEFL Videos - Can non native English speakers take a TEFL course?
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit covers a variety of different teaching methodologies, teaching techniques and different classroom activities that you can conduct in the classroom. The contents are very informative and I’ve learned a lot from it. Of all the methodologies mentioned, what I think the most effective are the Presentation, Practice and Production (PPP) and/or Engage-Study-Activate (ESA). This method is relatively flexible and it provides a balanced range of activities for students. One more thing that I’ve learned is when and how to correct mistakes/errors made during the following stages. This unit taught me about the various types of methods available to use when teaching and how they are effecive. It also taught me the different ways to correct a student and how it is important not too correct them when it means interrupting an activity or train of thought; wait until the end. It is also important to follow the rules of engage, study, activate. Each stage offers something different fo both the teacher and the learner and allows the teacher to see where improvement is needed. It also helps the student better understand what is being taught and how to put it into practice.
