TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Mary
Mary from the US took the 120-hour TEFL course with tutor support and videos after being recommended the course by her friends who are already teaching. In this TEFL review video, Mary discusses her experience of taking the course. Mary found the course videos to be helpful in presenting the course materials in a more visual way, which helped her to better absorb the information. She also found the tutors to be very responsive to her questions often replying within 24 hours. One of the main benefits of the course was that Mary was able to study in her own time enabling her to fit study around her job.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit covers advantages and disadvantages of using a textbook. While a textbook can be useful, it lowers the flexibility of the course, and should be modified or supplemented as the teacher sees fit. This unit also gives some examples of prepared lesson materials, such as cards. I think a textbook could be very useful, as it gives the students a roadmap of what they'll be doing and learning. Additional materials, such as cards or pictures, can compliment the textbook. So long as the teacher doesn't rely too heavily on it, a good textbook can bring more advantages than disadvantages.Unit 1 taught me important characteristics of learners and teachers. By learning about different teaching styles, such as manager, organizer, participant, and facilitator, I realized that the best teaching method is likely a synthesis of all different styles. The most important characteristic for teaching, motivating, and garnering respect from students is to have genuine care and concern for each student. This is something I will focus on as a teacher of English. Also, this unit taught me reasons why a person would want to learn English, and the different skill levels people will have.
