TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Olga
Olga form Russia took the 120-hour online course with ITTT and is now teaching English in China. In this TEFL review video Olga gives us brief look at one of her classes. The students are studying animal vocabulary and are obviously enjoying themselves.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
at this unit I`ve learnt how to effectively use teaching equipment in the classroom and what it is exactly. So I took notes how to work with a whiteboard, avoiding capitalized letters, writing a plan of what should be on a board beforehand. I appreciated the idea about recording students` activity to give it to them later for analysis, or use video camera to make a small project in groups. I`ll try to remember to use podcasts, consult with resource books and online sources in the future. After reading this I realized that I need to use visual aids as much as possible during the lessons. In this unit I learned pronunciation and phonology. These are often ignored in teaching but can be crucial to language learning. I learned about intonation, stress, syllables and techniques for teaching these things. I also learned there are certain commonalities that language learners tend to do when speaking, such as linking or sound dropping. I also learned about the phonetic alphabet and the different ways we pronounce words and sounds with our mouths. There are different methods of teaching these sounds, such as exaggerating the movements with my mouth, visuals or tongue twisters.
