English is a widely distributed language originating in England that is currently the primary language of several countries. It is extensively used as a second language and as an offical language in many other countries. If there were one language that could have a chance of being considered universal, it would be English. English is the most widely taught and understood language in the world. About 377 million people use one of the versions of English as their mother tongue, and a similar number of people use one of them as their second or foreign language as well. English is used widely in more than 100 countries all over the world. In some countries firms have started employing technical writers who will produce manuals in the firm´s international language only, which is English, without having to translate these from the employees native language. English is well on its way to becoming the dominant global language. English is growing stronger, not weaker all around the world. In addition, the language has occupied a prominent place in international academic and business communities. From my experiences it seems like having lack of English skills may even be hindering lots of people from their goals/ progress. I think learning English is a growing necessity in today´s competitive world economy. Learning a language should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Whether it is for someone, who is an international business executive, or someone in need of effective English and job skills for personal or professional reasons, being able to speak English is very important especially in this century. It is quickly becoming a universal language, if not already has. It is spoken and written in all walks of life.
