This unit is helpful because it offers directly applicable activities and advise for using the ESA model. I particularly find that pre-teaching vocabulary could be particularly useful for students. If they already have an idea of word meanings, the lesson can focus on grammatical structures or pronunciation instead of comprehension. Topic selection can also prove imperative to a successful lesson. If students find the subject matter engaging, then they will certainly be more invested in the class. This investment also helps to encourage students to talk with one another, a challenge for many ESL classrooms.
