Productive skills are speaking and writing. Writing must be done right first time, because it's hard to clear up misunderstandings later, whereas with speaking you get a chance to correct yourself. People have reasons for communicating and these reasons must be present to arouse students interest in speaking or writing activities. The reasons are they must want to communicate for a particular reason. Activities focus on accuracy and fluency. Accuracy is correct output and fluency is how good they are using the language. Writing skills focus on handwriting, spelling, punctuation and creative writing.
