This unit discussed the productive skills of speaking and writing. In a communicative activity the teacher needs to create the need and desire in order for the students to want to communicate. When writing, the emphasis is on accuracy and is part of the study phase. When speaking, the emphasis is on fluency and is part of the activate phase. There are several differences in writing, which separates it from speaking, such as grammar, handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation. The unit also covered games in the classroom. It was interesting noting the differences between an ESA lesson for speaking and an ESA lesson in writing, which were very helpful.
