This unit explains the importance of productive skills: speaking and writing. This unit explains how communicative activities are used to teach students how to communicate through speaking and writing. This unit also explains the difference between accuracy and fluency activities. I learned that accuracy activities are predominately used in the study phase and are controlled by the teacher to ensure correct language. I also learned that fluency activities are used as part of the activate stage, and are designed to inspire creative communication among the students. Fluency stages are designed to be less concerned with accuracy and more focused on creative communication. Fluency activities are not meant to be controlled by the teacher. The language communication output in fluency activities is controlled by the students.
