Unit 12 explored the role of speaking and writing in teaching English to non English speakers. Speaking and writing have the common purpose of communication, but have very different purposes in learner outcomes in the classroom, speaking for creating fluency and writing for creating accuracy. The information presented supports the need for both, speaking and writing, for effective lesson planning. Unit 12 also covered the main obstacles a TEFL teacher might encounter and provided many suggestions to overcome those obstacles. The unit points out the need for an interactive classroom to create an engaged and motivated student. The role of games as a learning tool and not just as filler is the primary example of that lesson concept. Again, practical advice.
