This unit was one of the more challenging units that talks about teaching pronunciation and phonology. As is mentioned in the unit, these aspects of the language are not taught frequently, as a native English speaker I don’t recall ever really being taught pronunciation other then maybe as a small child. It seems to be just one of those things that comes naturally as you learn, grow and use the language - which makes it all the more difficult to explain and teach. Simply broken down, pronunciation is how we make the sounds that comprise the speech, where phonology is the study of the components and characteristics that make those sounds. Things like intonation, stress and rhythm are all components of study, and are the tools we use to pronounce words.
