Don't use your english book as a bible learn to use other materials so that you don't lose your students interest in learning a new language. "Teaching materials" is a generic term used to describe the resources teachers use to deliver instruction. Teaching materials can support student learning and increase student success. The teaching materials will be tailored to the content in which they're being used, to the students in whose class they are being used, and the teacher. Teaching materials come in many shapes and sizes, but they all have in common the ability to support student learning. Learning materials are important because they can significantly increase student achievement by supporting student learning. For example, a worksheet may provide a student with important opportunities to practice a new skill gained in class. This aids in the learning process by allowing the student to explore the knowledge as well as providing repetition. Learning materials, regardless of what kind, all have some function in student learning. There are many types of classroom material that can be used to bring an enriching classroom environment. Here are just a few materials that can be used. An overhead projector which is great to help facilitate group discussions.Quizes and exams are also extra material that can be used to measure your students progress. Visual aids to help students truly understand and see the object or vocabulary without using words. Computers help with eliminating writing time on the board.Unfortunately one of the biggest issues for ESL/EFL teachers is classroom material. In a perfect world we would have all of these at the tip of our fingers but unfortunately EFL/ESL teachers are very limited to what resources are available. Teachers need to be very creative and create their own material which can be very tedious and exhausting. Most teachers need to pay from their own pocket to have material for their classes which can make a teacher not make the best material. This is a major problem and can have very negative affects on the outcome of the class since there won't be enough material to cover an entire class and therefore your students might be discouraged. An option is to have students give ideas of activities and use recycled newspapers and magazines to create inexpensive material and can be a good time for students to communicate and feel outside of the box from the traditional books and whiteboard work. If you do have access to internet there are many sites that can help with downloadable worksheets and activities. In the end using creative material can make your students feel more connected to that language and draw more interest in the classroom. The more variety of material that you can use in your class the better results you will have and your students will stay engaged, focus more and be more participative in your class. My conclusion is it is really up to the teacher to decide which material is appropriate and which material is affordable or available.
