I started to learn English when I was a child. It was in Russia. I can say that l learnt almost nothing when I finished school. My lessons were really boring as our teacher told us about some rules and wanted us then to learn them by heart and do some grammar exercises. So I had to learn English after graduating from the University as I needed to talk and write in English at work. Some time later I found information about people going abroad to teach and decided to complete a TEFL course. I can say that there is a great deal of reasons why not only people who want to go to teach abroad should complete it but the experienced teachers too. First of all after learning all the units I framed my knowledge of English. I understood how to share it with the others. I got the idea how to teach. I learnt about ESL lesson and it seems to me genius. The lesson consists of at least three stages and the first stage is an engage phase. I think it should be very effective if students from the very beginning are involved in a lesson. They start thinking and speaking in English and it trains their communicative skills. For experienced teachers this course might be also very useful, as it happens sometimes that teachers work in one place many years and do not want to improve their skills, they refuse to learn something new. In this course international standards are described. If teachers from different countries use these standards we will have better results, more students would be able to communicate in English when they are abroad or just meet a foreigner in their city. This course is also might be considered as source of information. A lot of examples of different activities are described there. Plus there are links to the sites with the great teaching resources. For a teacher who is going to start his or her career it is a treasure. I also think that even an experienced teacher will find a lot of interesting information to learn, modify and use in his or her work. Next reason to complete a TEFL course is the opportunity to work abroad. As for me this is the greatest and the best opportunity. I have always dreamed of going somewhere to live. I have travelled to many countries but it is not exactly what I want. When you come to a foreign country you can see the most known sightseeings and the places all tourists want to visit. You buy the tours or excursions and they show you what they want and can show you. I want to see how it is to live in a foreign country. What people eat during their daily life and on holidays, in what conditions they live, how they relax. I want to know as much as possible about the customs and traditions. I want to look at the culture from the inside and to build my own opinion about it instead of reading articles in the internet with someone’s personal attitude. So completing TEFL course gives every teacher opportunity not only to improve his teaching skills but the opportunity to get an international qualification and go to teach abroad.
