I disagree with the structure of this lesson and the previous one in the way it draws a separation between reading and writing. Certainly there are skills (pronunciation, punctuation) that are more important for one than the other, but I think you cannot teach or understand one without closely working with the other. Being able to read is an important skill, but I do not believe a student can work towards that skill without understanding how to create language as well. That's one reason I like the ESA structure- the activate phase addresses some of my concerns, by encouraging students to use language in context, in a way that eliminates the separation between speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
