This unit for me was very helpful because I am relatively new when it comes to teaching and one of my main areas of concern is the organizational part of teaching and planning lessons. What I learned from this unit is that over-planning, or literally writing a script of what you are going to say at every point of the class is the wrong way of going about class planning; which is what I had been doing recently to make up for my lack of experience in the classroom. Rather, you should have a working document as an aid to laying out the lesson for the day and use that document as a general record for what was discussed, what the students had trouble with, what worked/didn't work, and also as a self-evaluation of how your study plan helped the students and what you could have improved on or done better. In other words, have a basic layout of what will be discussed, but maintain an organic, natural flow to the class. I also really like the printable, fillable lesson plan organization sheets provided as it gives me a more organized approach to how I can go about planning my lesson for the day, allocating time, what activities will be utilized during each part of the ESA structure, etc. Overall, I really enjoyed this lesson! Very helpful.
