Pronunciation is the most neglected topic in teaching English but is necessary for students to master fluency in a language. It is unrealistic to expect students to have the same pronunciation as a native speaker, however, the more students are made aware of and taught the skill, the more fluent they will sound. Phonology which focuses on stress, intonation, and rhythm are used to fully understand what is being said. Teachers can use a variety of activities, tongue twisters, visual aids of mouth placement during pronunciation, and writing emphases on the board among other examples to help teach phonology and pronunciation.
