Past tenses relate to past time periods. All continous forms feature some form of the verb ´to be´plus the íng´form of the verb. All perfect forms feature some form of the verb ´to have´ and the past participle form of the verb. All perfect cnotinous forms feature some form of the verb ´to have´plus ´been´plus the íng´form of the verb. Many common verbs in English have an irregular simple past form which can cause some difficulties for the students because there are no rules to help them know which are irregular or how they are formed - therefore irregular verbs must be learnt by heart.
