Unit 9 gives a well detailed lecture on lesson planning, explaining the functions of lesson plans, how to write down lesson plans and the things that should be included in lesson plans. We learn here that there is no specific way to write a plan, teachers should find their own way while making sure to take notes of every changes they make. It is also very important for teachers to keep their lesson plan flexible and ensure that it doesn’t become too teacher-centered. The unit also touches on some important basic principles we need to put in mind when writing a plan, however, there was one principle which got my attention: the “do not script the lesson” principle. This is because I have always had the tendency of scripting the lesson and I thought it was a good idea, now I know it is something I should never do as it makes the lesson very rigid.          I gathered that lesson plans are important because it ensures that the lessons are carried out in an organized logical manner. It also ensures the smooth running of a class so it should be a “must have” for teachers who have no experience whatsoever. Also, it is important for teachers to constantly monitor and evaluate the quality of his/her lessons, this way he or she will be able to take note of what went well and what didn’t go well and subsequently look for methods to improve. Teachers should constantly look for ways to develop their skills and improve on the atmosphere of their classroom and its only through monitoring and evaluating that we can achieve this.
