This lesson begins by stating lesson plans are optional. I can see that being true for some teachers, but personally I will always make a lesson plan. Of course, I will need to practice being flexible and adapting my lesson plans to the interests and flow of the class, but I cannot imagine going into a day without a plan. The plan seems a great way to organize my thoughts before class, predict problems and brainstorm solutions, and keep detailed, daily records of the class activities. Writing out plans, and having a records of what we have done in the past few classes, will also be helpful with long-term planning, as I will have records of what the class enjoys/is successful with.
