Taking the tefl course was interesting and useful on a number of fronts. First I found the how to of structuring a class to be very helpful. The template of engage, study, and activate phase is good and relieves me from having to figure out how to present the material I want to teach on a particular day, and I'll have a record of that effort to use in a future class. Secondly, studying the various english tenses allows me to put a name onto what I do naturally as a native speaker. Then the exposure to teaching resources, material types, and classroom management is useful too, giving me a good starting point for lessons and will help prevent mistakes. It's also good to know that some ideas, like phrasal verbs are difficult to teach and so my time will be more effective if spent teaching more accessible materials The course provided validation for some ideas I had and introduced me to the new ones I mentioned above giving me the confidence to teach english as a second language.
