This unit deals with the teaching of receptive skills. The two receptive skills are reading and listening which are both equally important. Generally, readers and listeners employ a number of specialist skills when reading or listening and their understanding of the context will depend on their expertise in these areas: predictive skills; scanning (for specific information); skimming (for a general idea); digesting detailed information; making deduction from context. The unit provides some guidance/suggestions towards successful receptive skills lessons.
