There are four basic skills in learning the language: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. This unit is about receptive skills that are reading and listening. They are equally important as other two skills. There are two reasons for learning them: for a purpose, for entertainment or both at the same time. There are several problems that may arise when teaching reading and listening. First of all, a lesson should be interesting for students and connected to the vocabulary that they've learned recently, in order to apply their knowledge. Nevertheless, the text for reading, even non-authentic, can't contain only words that students know (easpecially begginers) so pre-teaching of new vocabulary is needed. It's not necessary to present all the words but only those that are needed to understand the text. In order to comprehend the knowledge a teacher should prepare the tasks, for instance, true or false questions, place the sentences in order as it was in the text, and etc. If students are more advanced they can write their own story based on the text. For reading or listening lesson I would prefer a patchwork approach, firtsly engage students, review vocabulary that they've learned before, activate it, then engage students to the topic of listening/reading, study speacial for reading/listening vocabulary, listen/read the text and activate the knowledge.
