This unit is all about pronunciation and phonology of words. Punctuation is one if the most neglected and difficult part of english and needs to be handle with care. The concept of punctuation involves phonology(study, science, analysis and classification of rhe physical properties of sounds) like in "stress, intonation, rhythm, international phonetic alphabet". Intonation is generally concerned with a stress on the whole sentence. It's also the fundamental in expression of emotions and feelings (happiness, sadness as well as uncertainty). It got patterns of rise and fall, fall and rise as well as rhe flat intonation(depending on the speaker). Some techniques of intonation includes ; gestures(used to indicate general direction),humming and singing, using the board, playing around with nonesense before introducing the real word. Stress is another form of punctuation. As a teacher, I'll stress not on sentences but on particular words. Rules of stress include; One word has one stress and if there's a second stress,it's not pronounced as the first. We can only stress syllables and not individual words. Auxiliary verbs are generally not stressed (have,be,do) but articles (a,an,the) are usually stressed Techniques of teaching include Constructive stress (cintrast between voice and invoice words). Teacher does repetition for learners to understand, phonetic alphabet (presentation of poems with words using dictionaries with sounds and signs to aid pronunciations. Articulation influences punctuation. It can be by Plosive which includes sounds pronounced in which the air is blocked in the vical chord and then released as in (/p,t,b,d/). Fricative where an obstruction is made in the mouth but air forced out as in (/f,v,sh,s/) Nadal which consist of(/m,n/) Lateral( forcing air with the side of the tongue) and affricative (tf) as in church. Teaching ideas here include pair dictation, drawing the shape of the mouth, tongue twisters
