Teaching abroad can be a milestone in your life. Most students out of university graduate and struggle to start a career or find work. Some will even have a financial debt that burdens them for many years following graduation. Some students will have never traveled outside of their own state, let alone their own country. It’s crazy to think in this day and age, how someone might not even know the outside world outside of their own bubble that they live in. Fortunately, for some young college graduates or even older college-level graduates, teaching abroad opens up many opportunities to really get out there and discover new things about the world and themselves. Some students will graduate from college with a 4-year degree and struggle starting their work career whether it’s because the job market is scarce or too competitive. Luckily for them, countries like Korea, Japan, Vietnam, or China are always looking to hire citizens from Native English speaking countries. The only requirement is a 4-year degree which you can finally use for something, even if it’s not in your field of study! There are many ways to get started on your new ‘teaching abroad’ adventure! From online forums to social media groups, to recruiting companies or directly from the company themselves! So if you find yourself stuck in a rut, jobless, in need of money, look into teaching abroad! Not only will you get to work in a different country, you might even to be able to save money and work on paying off a debt or saving to buy a car or house. Another reason to think about teaching abroad is, you get to live and work and travel in a completely new area you might’ve never been able to before. One piece of advice I would offer to anyone in life is, go travel the world! Traveling provides you with some life changing skills that will really open your eyes to a whole new world. Traveling will test your limits and push you outside of your comfort zone. You’ll realize how capable you are when you find yourself trying to communicate without speaking the local language or eating or doing something you would never try or do in your life prior to traveling. You will become aware of different languages, tastes, food, culture, or spirituality. You will find insight in the bigger realm of the world. You will learn things about yourself that you would have never known. You’ll appreciate the life you have at “home”. You will meet new people and make new friends which then leads to more travels and adventures. So while you might be reading this and thinking what your next chapter in life will be, I suggest that you seriously consider teaching English abroad. Teaching abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can ever have. It can be eye-opening and life changing. Countries all over the world are looking to hire anyone from a native English speaking country with a Bachelor’s degree. Not only does it allow you to travel to another country, but you are able to really immerse yourself into the culture through everyday life and work. All it takes is an open-mind and the right attitude and you could enjoy, or even love, teaching English abroad!
