To answer the question, is online teaching a source of globalization? We must start by defining the word "globalization" According to the Cambridge dictionary, globalization is the increase of trade around the world, especially by large companies producing and trading goods in many different countries. Also, a situation in which available products and services, or social and cultural influences, gradually become similar in all parts of the world. Having this information, we can now start with the matter. Online education is trending, on-demand, and a viable method for people around the world to reach any specific goal in learning. The fact that technology has helped to break down frontiers, and connect people no matter where they are, has allowed teachers and students to be connected while they are located in different countries. This connectivity has granted the possibility for them to transfer more than just some specific knowledge but also has open the bridge for cultural exchange and the way this contributes to social and cultural homogenization. Besides, from the business point of view, in terms of the PIIE (Peterson Institute for International Economics) globalization is the word used to describe the growing interdependence of the world's economies, cultures, and populations, brought about by cross-border trade in goods and services, technology, and flows of investment, people, and information. Today, the education business operates from a specific country employing people around the world, enabling companies to reach more customers and get a higher return on the fixed costs of doing business. First of all, cultural exchange is evidenced just by the fact that today teachers from the U.S., the U.K., or Australia are some of the most wanted to teach English learners in Asia, specifically China. In this context, as said in the specialized course in "Teaching English to Young Learners," teachers must research their student's culture and social behavior to be sure about what gestures, clothing, and vocabulary are acceptable in the culture he/she will teach. Then, teachers from many nationalities have joined the increasing demand causing them to acquire many of the learned habits and apply them to their daily conduct. For instance, in my experience as a Colombian English teacher, I've had the opportunity to teach kids and adults all over China from the comfort of my own home. Punctually is not a social manner in my country, though due to my experience, I have become an extremely punctual person. Additionally, during this interaction, the cultural exchange happens during every lesson, while students are frequently curious about their teacher's origins, cultures, and traditions. As well, teachers use this opportunity to encourage students to apply what they've learned to talk about their own cultures. Using a new language to talk about a very familiar topic becomes an extremely effective method to develop a student's speaking skills. In this vein, teachers have been facilitating the acquisition of western traditions in China. In order to deepen this idea, it is convenient to mention that nowadays, many Chinese people are celebrating Halloween and Christmas, although it is true that this practice has been caused by marketing and media, instead of by teachers, today, educators have an essential role in promoting these traditions. Then, talking about market demand and the business side of education, the Chinese case will still be the subject. Today, many English teaching companies from China established their headquarters in the same country, but a significant fraction of their operations are taking place in the Philippines or other countries. They are also employing home-based people around the world, enabling them to reach more customers and get a higher return on the fixed costs of doing business. Having a workforce working from home saves thousands of expenses in rent, energy, and other contracting fees required by governments to companies. But why is China a good example? Governors have designed regulations to ensure that a significant fraction of the Chinese population speaks English; this action has grown the need for teachers and companies delivering these services. As a result, they are supporting new job opportunities and encountering ways to make their businesses more profitable by responding to taxes in the most convenient countries. According to my experience, I have been able to enjoy the benefit of earning my salary in a more stable currency than the official Colombian money. Nevertheless, the agreement between the providers and I don't include any of the Colombian's official benefits for employees or contractors. Finally, as seen in the previous examples and statements, online education fulfills the stated definitions for globalization. Teaching and being part of the delivery of knowledge through the internet contributes to the proliferation of trading culture, services, technology, and the interdependence of economies.
