It is equally necessary to teach the reflective skills of reading and listening. Reading is usually easier for students because they can go over the material repeatedly, whereas listening requires them to capture the language and meaning of what they are hearing immediately, without the opportunity to hear it repeated. Pre-teaching language is helpful before engaging with the material, so that unfamiliar words may be mastered beforehand. Teachers must be careful when selecting topics and reading/audio materials to make sure that the content is interesting to the students and not of a difficulty beyond their level of comprehension of vocabulary and grammar.
