This unit introduces the two receptive language skills - reading and listening. Reading has the advantage of being captured so that students have time to consider the meaning whereas with listening students must understand immediately as things are being said. This unit also provides some practical examples of activities for listening and reading exercises and how a lesson could be planned around this. Teachers must carefully consider the types of material used for listening and reading exercises so that they are the right level of challenge and also maintain student interest.
