A child’s first contact to the world is the parents before anyone else, then the people at home where he/she lives. Parents or guardians are the therefore, the first teachers and are the key role players in the building of the child’s character. Striking a balance between education at home and at school should mould a child’s actual learning process. Being helpful to the child in terms of helping a child with the learning process will build a strong foundation for the child’s ability to actually learn new things. Some parents tend to have the thought that it is only the duty of the teacher to teach a child not theirs. Such a belief does both the child and the parents more harm than good. No matter how much a parent invests in the child’s learning if they don’t get involved in the process of helping the child learn they risk not getting satisfactory results. A child should not only be exposed to education or the learning process only st school. The should continue with the process even at home, with friends and other influencers. It is vital for the parents to be at the forefront or at the steering wheel of the vehicle of the learning process. That is by providing guidance and information along the entire journey, in the case of learning English as a foreign language encouraging child’s practice is important for perfection of the language. Parents tend to give their children all the motivation and morale they need to pursue a career than a teacher can ever do. This is mainly because the young learners tend to have more confidence in the parents more than anyone else. There are quiet a number of ways in which parents play a key role in the education of their children. Firstly they parents act as a role model to their children since children look upto them and imitate what they do. In this way children or rather students are easily inspired by their parents. Parents being the first teachers to the children they learn first things at home. Parents are able to show or illustrate how exciting and meaningful a school life can be if they give out the best. Parents who read together or study together with the child give the child the best sense of support and build confidence in the child. Reading together helps the parents and the child have exposure to the learning process. In the case of learning English as a second language parents who are involved in activities towards helping the child learn the language help in expediting the learning process of the language. Language taught to a child in this case is easily assimilated and put to got use. But on the contrary if the child only uses the language at school and gets back to speaking the native language when at home don’t easily learn efficiently or learn with difficulties. As compared to a child whose parents makes sure the child doesn’t use the native language even at home. Henceforth, real-life learning is the best type of learning and can’t be substituted for anything anything, as informal as it might appear to be. Lastly, lack of parents participation or involvement in the child’s education have intense negative effects on how the child will be able to perform. This tends to as well negatively affect all the environment around the child’s learning process. Which ends up leading to the society producing yields of illiterate people or future leaders because education is not only the duty of teachers alone but the society and everyone in it. As parents continue taking courage to impact on education it may seem insignificant but it is the key to a bright future for our future leaders.
